Railway Safety in Estonia -
15
- Annual Report 2011
usage permits to 55 modernised platforms that follow
the technical specification of the new passenger
trains launched in Estonia in 2013. In the process of
reconstruction the Technical Surveillance Authority
advises railway companies in choosing the right position
of the platforms, linking them with other structures
and traffic management, and assesses the compliance
and safety of the platforms. In case of such large-scale
projects, cooperation between all the parties is of utmost
importance. The construction of the new platforms
considers with regional opportunities and developments.
Our major challenge for the forthcoming period is
preparing the passengers for the arrival of the new
passenger trains. The new trains will have additional
functions and they will be changes in the way trains
are operated. The Technical Surveillance Authority will
also continue shaping the dangerous areas in a way that
would ensure the uniform marking of such areas for
railway crossing and using transport services all over the
network. For that purpose, during a reasonable period of
time should be created, standardised and implemented a
respective marking system.
