Operation Lifesaver Estonia Annual Report 2012
All these measures resulted in the growing
number of train passengers. In 2012 the number of
passengers using Edelaraudtee AS’s trains grew by
8% that could compare with all the people of Tapa
town making 10 round trips to Tallinn. It is good
for the overall safety if people choose to use such a
safe mean of transportation as the train.
Our main project for 2013 is the construction of
15 new passenger platforms that would improve
considerably the safety level of passengers while
accessing trains.
Very soon we will have on our infrastructure new
passenger trains that can make up to 160 km/h
but today our infrastructure allows driving only
at 120 km/h. In the following years we will work
hard to improve the infrastructure and we hope
that our idea to increase the driving speed at Lelle-
Pärnu section to 160 km/h will be supported. It is
technically possible using the same embankment.
A negative development for us was the government’s
decision not to organise a tender for operating the
new trains. The operator was just nominated and
Edelaraudtee AS did not have the opportunity to
compete for operating the trains in 2014.
