© Operation Lifesaver is a international, non-profit education and awareness program dedicated to ending
tragic collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights of way.
Founded in Estonia on 19 November 2004 -
There was a lot of interest in railway safety in 2012.
OLE was expected in all our camps to share their
railway safety knowledge and we were glad to see
that OLE attended most of them – KEAT safety
camps held in Järva, Harju, Pärnu, Võru, Rapla and
Lääne counties and in the city of Tallinn.
In total,
lectures on railway safety were given to 1236
children participating in our camps. Although OLE
could not make it to all the camps, their message
was still there in on water bottles – OLE provided
drinking water to all the participants and sent to our
safety camps 2228 bottles of water.
In addition to our cooperation in the KEAT safety
camps, OLE was also involved in our safety days.
They were present in Saare, Rapla and Järve counties.
The safety days are a family event organised by the
Rescue Board involving our cooperation partners
dealing with safety related issues on a daily basis.
Different agencies and organisations are present
with their information tents where people can ask
information about safety, do practical exercises
and watch safety demonstrations made by various
agencies. The Rescue Board, for example, has
commissioned a demo showing what will happen if
you extinguish oil burning on a pan with water. The
safety days take place in county centres and become
more and more popular among families.

Regardless to the fact that there are no railways
in Saaremaa, not to mention trains, we decided to
invite our good cooperation partner OLE to carry
out their prevention activities also on this island.
The people of the island are visiting the continent
where they also must deal with dangers present
on railways. Actually, the people of Saaremaa go to
the “big land” very often and, as they do no need to
worry about train accidents at home, they might be
a bit more careless than the others.
OLE’s chairman Tamo answered our call and agreed
to bring railway safety information also to our island.
OLE participated in Saaremaa’s safety day first time
in summer of 2011 and their information tent was
filled with audience. As there cannot be too much
of good things, we invited OLE to be present also in
2012 and we hope that this tradition will continue.
After OLE team’s visit to Saaremaa arrived also their
advertising campaigns. It was a great pleasure to
notice the large posters with the slogan “Let the
train pass” also on our island.
In addition to our cooperation in KEAT
safety camps, in 2012 OLE was also
present in our Safety Days.
