© Operation Lifesaver is a international, non-profit education and awareness program dedicated to ending
tragic collisions, fatalities and injuries at highway-rail grade crossings and on railroad rights of way.
Founded in Estonia on 19 November 2004 -
PKP Polish Railway Lines’ communication team
has just completed the 8th year of the awareness
campaign Safe rail-road level crossing - “Stop and
live!”, thus starting its 9th edition. The campaign
that has so far been dedicated to LX safety problems
has now been extended to railway trespassing.
Last
year we focused on our proven solutions as well
as successfully implemented new ideas. One of
the campaign’s key initiatives is the project called
“Safe Monday”
– 23 enforcement units consisting of
Police officers, Railway Security guards and railway
personnel carry out routine LX safety checks across
the country penalizing road users who do not
comply with traffic regulations.
Numerous citizens have used the
“Submit a
malfunction”
web-based form available on
which is a very quick
and convenient method to inform us about a spotted
breakdowns or damages on rail-road level crossings.
Every month a newsletter containing latest
statistical data, recent activity reports as well as
future events and projects is sent to nearly 400
subscribed recipients. Due to the fact that railway
accident related problems do not only involve
vehicle drivers but also pedestrians who are often
passing railway tracks in prohibited places, we
launched the project named “Zero tolerance for
trespassing on railway tracks”. In order to back up
the project the following actions had been taken:
• press conference with Mr. Tamo Vahemets,
Chairman of the Board Operation Lifesaver
Estonia;
• establishing close cooperation with Operation
Lifesaver (OL) - a non-profit organization
providing public education programs to
prevent collisions, injuries and fatalities
on and around railway tracks and railway
grade crossings by promoting the three
E’s -
Education, Enforcement and Engineering;
• by joining the OL project the campaign will be
able to benefit from all the proven solutions;
• educational meetings with children and
youth have been extended to railway property
trespassing issues.
Safety cannot be compromised, therefore PKP Polish
Railway Lines Company is dedicated to further
cooperate, share experiences and work hard to
prevent injuries and fatalities that occur on level
crossings and railway property.
Safety cannot be compromised, therefore
PKP Polish Railway Lines Company is
dedicated to further cooperate...
