Railway Safety in Estonia -
28
- Annual Report 2011
Western Prefecture
Traffic safety and prevention have always been one of our
priorities.
Railway safety is one component of enhancing
traffic culture, thus we have made an effort for raising
public awareness for preventing railway related dangers.
In order to improve railway safety situation in our
prefecture, our officers made a series of railway safety
related presentations in the schools of Järva County in
the framework of the
“Protect Yourself and Help Others”
project. In 2011 the project was attended by 18 schools
and we can now say that the youth of Järva County knows
well what OLE is and what does slogan “Look! Listen!
Live!” means.
Last year we participated together with OLE in several
prevention events organised in Järva County: camps,
safety days and anniversary of Järva Consumers
Association. At these events we shared our knowledge
about safe traffic on both railways and roads.
OLE has been a wonderful cooperation partner also at the
“YOUR LIFE” family day held at Märjamaa. This event was
targeted at adults and children living in Märjamaa region.
During the day we present an overview of the dangers
present on railways and roads, rescue related issues, and
people are taught lawful and safe behaviour.
In Järva County the railways safety issues are the
responsibility of
Malle Hermanson
and
Marju Tamsalu
,
police officer of Paide Department dealing with youth,
and
Lea Leopard
, dealing with the same issues at Rapla
Police Department.
“OLE’s staff has great interpersonal skills, they stick to their
promises and our meetings with them are always productive
and just pleasant.”
