Railway Safety in Estonia -

          46

          - Annual Report 2011

Each year we have several people losing their lives

            on railway tracks.

For us these numbers are not just

statistics but real people and the pain their close ones

have to suffer. The latter is even deeper if we consider

the circumstances and reasons of such tragic accidents.

Getting hit by a train or driving in front of a train cannot

be compared with getting struck by lightning or getting

killed in an earthquake. In most cases train accidents

are caused by negligence of road users and people

themselves can do the most to prevent them from

happening. There is not much needed to achieve that –

one should just spare enough time for crossing railway.

In order to remind to motor vehicle drivers and

pedestrians the dangers related to railway crossings,

OLE organised its traditional Christmas campaign with

          the slogan

„LET THE TRAIN PASS! YOU ARE EXPECTED

          HOME FOR CHRISTMAS!”

          The campaign focusing on the

expectations of close ones has been warmly welcomed

by our cooperation partners. One example of that is

the fact that the campaign materials were used by the

railway companies in the United States. Thank you for the

          recognition!

An overview of the reception of the campaign by the

Estonian audience written by OLE’s media partner can be

          found on page 50.
